Born in 1876. Artist and stage designer. Gained popularity with his unique illustrations to Russian folk fairytales. In 1902, Kornilov Brothers purchased exclusive rights to reproduce 12 Bilibin paintings on their porcelain plates. These plates, with various pan-slavic border designs, became the company’s instant bestseller and were mostly made for export to North America. They have 2 numbers on the back. The first one identifies the subject in the middle (1 thru 12), and the other – a border pattern.
