After the engraving from “Iconographie grecque” (Pl.10) by Ennio Quirino Visconti published in 1808 in Paris. Visconti (1751-1818) was an Italian antiquarian and art historian, papal Prefect of Antiquities, and an expert on ancient Roman sculpture. Published by order of Napoleon copies of this three volume work were given out as gifts.<\/p>\n

Bias of Priene was a Greek sage. He is widely accepted as one of the Seven Sages of Greece and was renowned for his probity.
\nSome sayings attributed to Bias:

\n“Most people are evil”
\n“All men are wicked”
\n“Choose the course which you adopt with deliberation; but when you have adopted it, then persevere in it with firmness”
