Hugo Stein (1881–1930) started out as a drawing student at the Manufaktur Meissen, 1907–10 advanced training as a figure painter at the Dresden Academy, from 1911 freelance for Meissen. Efforts to revive the cobalt blue underglazed painting, together with the William Baring and Otto Eduard Voigt.
