Starting in 1840s Minton used a separate numbering system for relief-molded jugs, teapots and butter dishes. Originally the numbers appeared on a moulded scroll-mark along with the cursive letter M, but this was eventually discontinued in favor of a simple impressed number. These model numbers indicate a unique combination of the shape, design and color.
