Sevres Service marli d’or

Word “marli” is of French origin and refers to a raised border around a plate while “D’or” means golden. The production of the service with golden border started in 1805 and continued until the restoration of the monarchy in 1814. A variety of subjects was depicted, including landscape scenes, cameos, floral motifs, historical and genre scenes. The service was delivered in stages once a sufficient number of plates had been assembled, and gifts from the service were made by Napoleon in 1809 to King Friedrich August I of Saxony, and in 1812 to the Austrian ambassador, Prince Schwarzenberg.
