The set was created in 1951 by sculptors Sofia Velikhova and Lubov Holina to mark the 15th anniversary of the adoption of the Soviet Constitution. Leading artists of the Lomonosov State Porcelain Factory participated in painting the figures, which depict young pioneers and representatives of the multi-ethnic Soviet Union carrying a flower-framed portrait of the “great leader and teacher.” By presenting figures symbolizing the 15 republics of the USSR in a harmonious procession, the work expressed the official Soviet ideal of unity, constructive labor, and a happy life under peaceful skies.
