Born in Slovakia. Attended the Vienna School of Arts and Crafts as a guest student. From 1902 to 1910 lived Berlin where he designed a number of models for KPM. In 1910 Klablena returned to Austria and founded his own workshop in Langenzersdorf near Vienna. As early as 1911-12, he enjoyed success with his ceramic designs at the winter exhibition of the former Austrian Museum for Art and Industry, today’s MAK Vienna, with both animal sculptures and ‘fashion ladies’. The successful presentation of his ceramic works at this ‘competitive exhibition’ of Austrian artists culminated in the long-term acceptance of 120 models by the Wiener Werkstätte. In the years to follow, Eduard Klablena distinguished himself with his ceramics at important exhibitions both at home and abroad, above all in Germany, and exported his works all over the world from 1915 onwards.
