Stoneware jug, the ‘Waverley Jug’, creamy body, relief-moulded with a portrait of Sir Walter Scott within a wreath formed of thistles, oak leaves, mistletoe, bow and quiver of arrows, shield, boars’ head, jester’s cap, helmet, dagger and speart. On the other side a musical trophy of bagpipes, pan pipes and horn, all interspersed with thistles, lyre and oak leaves, in the centre of which is an open book with WAVERLEY / CHAP / XII. More mistletoe round the rim and under the spout, the handle in the form of a twig.
