In Greek mythology, Amalthea, often depicted as a goat or a nymph tending goats, is renowned for nursing the infant Zeus. She hid him from his father, Cronus, who intended to devour his children to prevent a prophecy about his overthrow. To protect the young god, Rhea, Zeus’s mother, hid him in a cave on Mount Ida in Crete, where Amalthea cared for him, feeding him goat’s milk
