Paul Scheurich modeled this group in 1937 and delivered it to Meissen in 1938, though at the time the Saxon Economic Ministry’s antipathy to Scheurich’s designs meant that it could not immediately be purchased. Wolfgang Müller von Baczko was permitted to purchase it only in October 1939, and then only with an amended contract that excluded Scheurich from receiving any royalties. It was first produced in porcelain in 1940.
