Shape Number: 412
Modeled by J.B. Klagman
Height: 16″.
The subject is after Geef’s marble sculpture. First introduced by Minton at the Great Exhibition of 1851 and later illustrated in the Art Journal. Nudes on lions and panthers were a very popular Victorian subject reproduced by many Parian manufacturers including Minton (see John Bell’s Una and Ariadne). Klagman’s piece is much better modeled though, more rare and valuable.
The shape photo is from The Minton Archive.
