“SMS Freya” was a large cruiser – completed in 1872/76 at the Imperial Shipyard in Danzig – served to expand the high seas fleet, but was not put into service until 1900. Soon afterwards, the “SMS Freya” was converted into a school or training ship for new sailors and initially traveled abroad on several trips until it was finally decommissioned in Danzig in 1911.
