Along with his other models depicting Chinese figures, the figure of the dancing Chinese boy was completed before Scheurich fell ill in August 1923. Max Adolf Pfeiffer purchased the model from Käthe Scheurich on 17 April 1926 for RM 1,200. The figure was sold in white from the beginning of 1927 and coloured from April; 48 figures had been sold by the end of 1931
