Meissen Turkish Couple on Horseback by Scheurich

Model Number: A 1226
Height: 14 1/2″
Modeled in 1930 by Paul Scheurich
The first porcelain model of this rare figural group was completed in 1930 and painted in 1931. The group was variously known as the “Horseman”, “Turk”, “Turk on horseback” and so on, and then “Entführung” (Abduction) was used for the first time in 1937, though there was no connection to Mozart’s opera. By the end of 1944, eleven examples had been released for sale, of which three were undecorated.
