Albert Edward, Prince of Wales as a child after the painting by Winterhalter in the Queen’s collection. Albert Edward was the eldest son of Queen Victoria and Prince Albert and succeeded his mother in 1901 as King Edward VII of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Ireland and Emperor of India. Most Parian portraits of him are as a young man around the time of his engagement and marriage to Princess Alexandra of Denmark.
This model was exhibited at the 1849 Birmingham Exhibition and at the Great Exhibition in 1851.
