Maria Dietsch, the daughter of Joseph Dietsch a tailor master craftsman from Schwandorf, was born in Munich in 1835. Worked as a seamstress for her father.
At the age 15 painted by Joseph Stieler. It was his last painting produced for the Gallery of Beauty. It is believed that she was a rushed selection for the portrait, as her rather modest and plain appearance clashes with the rest of the series.
She later went on to marry Georg Sprecher, the editor of the Augsburger Evening Newspaper.
