In Greek mythology, Apollo, the god of music, healing, and prophecy, was punished by Zeus for killing the Cyclopes and was forced to serve King Admetus of Pherae for a year. As a form of servitude, Apollo became a shepherd for Admetus. During his time with Admetus, Apollo is said to have blessed the king’s herds, causing them to bear twins. This service was not out of necessity, but rather a result of Apollo’s “love” for Admetus, according to some accounts
