Sevres plate – Olympic Service – Bacchus and Ariadne

Sevres Plate Olympic Service 66

Porcelain painter: Jean Georget.
The myth of Ariadne and Bacchus centers around the Greek princess Ariadne, who is abandoned on the island of Naxos by Theseus after helping him defeat the Minotaur. Bacchus, the Roman god of wine, then encounters her, falls in love, and marries her. He also immortalizes her by placing her crown in the sky as the constellation Corona Borealis.
