Le château de Stupinigi en Piémont, Turin, Italy.
After Luigi [Louis] Baldassare Reviglio (Turin, 1785-1844), a landscape artist iniatially known for his circular gouaches. In 1811 he was celebrated by the public as a master of the “dessin à la gouache” for his ability to give this technique the tone changes and half-tones of oil painting. It is precisely the experimentation of the master technique of painting that gave Reviglio fame: in 1822 he was appointed by King Carlo Felice “Regio village painter”, with the task of painting large-format canvases depicting the residences of Casa Savoia.
